PROUDLY PRESENT ...
PICKERING’S FIRST ANNUAL WALKING FESTIVAL

Plans have now been finalised for Pickering’s first annual walking festival. This event will take place on 16/17/18 April with many walks throughout the area and an evening entertainment.

We begin on Friday 16th April with an evening walk from Pickering. This will give people a chance to experience walking and navigating in the dark. Bring a torch and spare batteries, and a compass if you want to try walking on a bearing in the dark, and we will get you back to town in time for a pint.

Saturday 17th April will be a ‘Boots and Bus’ day when we will put on four walks of different lengths all using either a mini bus or a service bus. In the evening we will be entertained at the Memorial Hall by the Randy Monks, an Irish folk band. The band play for no fee and all proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support. Tickets will include a pie and pea supper with a vegetarian pie option.

On Sunday 18th April we will have a ‘Boots and Steam’ day when we will use the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to take us to our walks. Again, there will be four walks of different lengths, one of them being led by National Park Rangers.  Some of the walks will return on foot to Pickering and some will be getting the train back.

In addition to these, there will be some themed walks throughout the weekend including Lost pubs of Pickering and Forgotten railways south of Pickering led by Pickering town guides, and tropical seas, castles and kilns led by the North East Yorkshire Geology Trust. And to cap it all there will be guided town walks throughout the weekend.

Detailed information and booking forms are available at the Tourist Information Centre and Trailblazer Outdoors, and can also be found on our website at www.pickeringwaw.btik.com.   Tickets for the Randy Monks can also be purchased from Tourist Information Centre and Trailblazer Outdoors.

We would like to thank our sponsors, without whom we would have great difficulty staging this event.  They are HF Holidays, Mark Stephensons estate agents, Atkinson Builders and 17 Burgate 5* accommodation. We also thank our other supporters, who include Black Swan Hotel, Bramwood  Guesthouse, Flintofts Ironmongers, Pickering Town Council, and Trailblazer Outdoors.

The Pickering Walkers are Welcome website ( www.pickeringwaw.btik.com ) is updated regularly with what the local group is doing, and there is also information on the national website: ( www.walkersarewelcome.org.uk ).

Numbers on all walks will be limited, so please don’t miss out - book early. There will be something for everyone, from short, special interest walks to a 15 mile linear challenge walk. Come and join us!
