Pickering Experimental, Engineering and Model Society hosted a garden party complete with hog roast, at a member's house, in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The weather on the last weekend of June was glorious, with approximately 180 members and guests helping to raise £1500 for such a worthy cause. With vintage cars and vintage members, the day passed in pleasant company admiring the vintage cars, running model i/c engines, a traction engine ticking over, the static model display and the younger generation's prowess on the clubs 7¼ gauge railway. The hog roast was a great success, just managing to cater for everyone's inner needs. The vintage members were also treated to plentiful supplies of salads, cakes, buns, trifles and a constant supply of tea & coffee by the delightful wives. The day closed to the receding throaty roar of well tuned vintage engines, heading home with contented well fed passengers. This was just one of the many events put on this year by the club. New members are always welcome to our meetings held at the WRVS centre in Pickering on the first Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30pm. G. P. Bramley. |
