The 25th Anniversary weekend of the Ryedale Aquarist Society began on the evening of Friday 9th July, when Sue and David Marshall hosted two events in one, as this was both an Anniversary social evening for the members and monthly meeting of the Keighley based Yorkshire Cichlid Group.

On Sunday 11th July, the members were joined by fishkeepers from throughout Northern England for a   special 25th Anniversary Day, that was held at Old Malton Memorial Hall.

Special guest for the day was aquatic consultant Dr. David Ford, who gave an excellent illustrated talk about the 30 years he spent working on the development of a wide range of aquarium   products for the Mars Company.

The prestigious Ryedale Championship competition was keenly contested by several of the top prize winning fish in the UK. Six leading 'A' Class Judges pooled their knowledge and awarded 1st place to 'George', a Marbled Goby a family pet, owned by the Blackburn family of Sheaf Valley (Sheffield) A.S.

Thirteen further Anniversary Classes were held while the British Cichlid Association put on their national mini-show and an information stand. The Anabantoid Association of Great Britain,    Fishphilosophy Aquarium Foods and Aquarium Gazette magazine were also present with their information stands.

To complete the day Mr. Steve Jones of the EAC auctioned sixteen 'lots' of aquatic items.

The Ryedale members send their thanks to friends from the YAAS, Tyne Tees Area Association, BCA and EAC for all their work and help on a memorable day.

 David Marshall.
