Early Tudor Yorkshire by John Rushton. This new book is a study of the county from 1485 to 1558. It covers the reigns of Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary. Although the great events of the reigns such as the Pilgrimage of Grace and the Dissolution of the Monasteries are fully covered. Victorian Ships by Gordon Bell and Arthur Credland. John Ward was a Hull artist whose promising career was cut short when he died in the cholera outbreak of 1849. For the first time, the loose prints he had prepared for his first book are brought together. The Yorkshire Mary Rose by Stephen Baines. The Whitby ship 'General Carleton' sank off the coast of Poland in 1785. She was excavated during the 1990's and this excavation revealed artefacts and clothing all perfectly preserved in the ships cargo of tar. Alan Avery |
